Technically, our lists are (moderated) discussion, but operationally,
they're broadcast, as we get virtually no active discussion. (We've tried
to jump-start it and we're due to try again.) We use Meetup's list almost
exclusively for meeting or group-specific notices (or major local things
like tek being in Atlanta), and a Google group for discussion, job
postings, etc. Google Groups aren't much better than Meetup, but at one
point long ago, moderation was not a feature of Meetup.

We average 4-6 posts a month.

1849 on Meetup and 979 on Google, but those are fairly useless counts, as
many join to post a job once, then disappear.

 Nothing really that's impacted the list in the last year, though we've had
strict job posting rules for years (http://atlantaphp.org/jobs/), that
really cut down on the junk posts. List moderation is key too, as we still
get people submitting .NET jobs that are nowhere near our group. I try to
keep up as best as I can with things that would benefit or be of interest
to our members, like conference and CfP announcements, and deals and
discounts on books, software, and so on. I try to tweet the same things if
possible, as well.
