Thanks for the kudos, Keith! That being said, attendance at DCPHP and Baltimore PHP has dropped off in the past year. Has anybody else experienced this? Currently I'm running a survey of DCPHP members: both on our old Google Group and through Meetup. I'll let people know what I find out, if anyone's interested (and if the results are something more than "getting around DC is hard"). I will say, based on my Meetup experience so far is that you can get a LOT of members--DCPHP just crested 800 on there--but the commitment level is very low. I'm guilty of this myself: I've joined several meetups and have only attended a few, and certainly haven't become a regular at any. So Meetup may be necessary, but I'm not sure it's sufficient. :) Man, it's almost like this organizing stuff is work. Sheesh. -Sandy On Dec 4, 2012, at 1:30 PM, D Keith Casey Jr wrote: > > @Jason - Drop me a note off list to chat on details. > > On moving away from Meetup in general, I'd really recommend against it. I put ~4 years into DCPHP and we hit ~400 members. In the 2.5 years since Sandy Smith listed the group on Meetup, another 400 members have appeared. Like it or not, it is *the* place that people go first to find groups of interest. > > On a related note, I'm proud to see that in those 2.5 years, there have been 85 events. That's 2.83/month on average which is ridiculously active.
