If you have a reluctant group, lightning talks can be good too. About 4-5 10 
minute talks, works out the same as a full talk and people are *way* less 
intimidated by that.

Here are a few prompts that I've seen work:
-  demo your latest project;
-  show us your favorite software tool;
-  show us how you solved a recent problem;
-  show us your favorite open source project;
-  show us the tool/project you *want* to use but haven't been able to;
-  how do you manage X?

Also, if someone is *really* bad, it's only 10 minutes instead of an hour.. 
luckily that's not an issue very often.
