Re: [UG-ADMINS] User Groups and php.net visability

Hi everyone

For anyone who doesn't know me, I'm Lorna, project lead of
joind.in(regular speaker, ex user group organiser and occasional
conference
organiser).  I wanted to chime in on a couple of points that came up,
particularly in how joind.in relates to user groups rather than conferences
(although Hannes, I would still love to facilitate a good way to give you
our conference data for php.net).

The approval process isn't going away any time soon (you should see what we
don't approve, the majority of submissions don't make it to the site), but
I would be more than happy to have more event approvers if you think it's
taking too long, or you want to be able to approve your own events.  We do
require a decent description as well just a place and time - but I think
that works well because then people who find the event on joind.in (or via
joind.in's data made available anywhere else) can find out enough
information to realise they are welcome and should go along :)

I can't imagine us adding recurring events anytime soon (although, you
know, patches welcome!), but it seems to me like we need either a slightly
different type of event or something else that makes it easier for user
group organisers to make use of joind.in.  It's a community-built tool, so
IMO it should change and adapt to keep pace with the community as it
changes and adapts.  I know the pain of publishing the same information to
multiple different outlets so I'm opening a task to create a new submission
tool with "submit event from meetup" as a way of pulling some of that data
across for the events that do use meetup - we can of course integrate any
other tools that make sense (eventbrite?  I don't know any events locally
that use meetup, in the UK it tends to be that events are more bootstrapped
than sponsored).

I love what's happening in this thread and if joind.in has data that should
come in or go out to other systems or we can help in any way, just let us
