Greetings all!

I asked Paulo to post this to the group. He mentioned it to my Saturday and
on the surface I like the idea.

I understand Beth's points and I understand Liz's points. I respect them
both. However, we are not inventing something new here. This is nothing
more than what StackOverflow has for their community and I've yet to see
anyone have serious problems with it.  To me it is not a system to exclude
someone but a system to encourage others.

Will some people feel excluded, undoubtedly. Would those people have
contributed to their local user group if the system were not in place, in
my opinion, no. My bass for this is the fact that most people aren't
motivated to contribute anyhow. However, we cannot always aim for the
lowest common denominator. Instead of seeing this as a tool that
discourages people to participate, I see it as one that encourages them.

FWIW, my SO score is in the 400's I will NEVER EVER have they time to get
up in the 20k range and have a shot at running for moderator. That doesn't
discourage me from going out to SO when I ahve time and answering an easy
question to pick up a few points. Gamification does work.

I like this idea. It needs some work, but overall, I think it will have a
positive impact on the community just like SO's points helps keep it's
community committed to being involved. Paulo, should you decide to pursue
this idea, I will do everything I can to help you make it happen. Hopefully
it will work in Brazil as you and I think it will and encourage more people
than it discourages. If we can show it a success then I will encourage
every UG manager I know to bring it to their group and ask if they want to
participate in it.
