Hello CRIU team,

I hope you are doing well.

My name is Shresth Maheshwari, and I am a third-year Electronics and
Communication Engineering student at NIT Hamirpur. Over the past few
months, I have been studying the CRIU codebase and building my
understanding of Linux internals in preparation for contributing to
the project and submitting a proposal for Google Summer of Code.

I am writing to share my draft proposal titled “Optimize Copy-on-Write
Memory Dumping in CRIU” and to kindly request feedback from the
community. During my preparation, I have focused on understanding the
dump and restore workflow, exploring memory management concepts such
as Copy-on-Write, and performing small practical experiments to better
understand the behavior of memory pages.

I have also been documenting my learning process and hands-on
experiments while studying the relevant subsystems. My goal with this
proposal is to improve the efficiency of handling Copy-on-Write pages
during the dump process while maintaining correctness and reliability.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback or suggestions regarding:

The technical feasibility of the approach
Areas where my understanding may be incomplete
Potential edge cases or considerations I should address
Improvements to the implementation plan or timeline

Your guidance would be extremely valuable in refining the proposal
before submission.

Thank you very much for your time and for maintaining such an
impactful project. I look forward to learning from your feedback and
continuing to contribute to CRIU.

Best regards,
Shresth Maheshwari
