[kbd] Major update

Hi!

Large changes are pushed to the master. These changes have made Oleg
Bulatov and I want to say a big thank you to him. These changes should fix
a regression in behavior and fix several really old bugs.

I believe that the changes are serious enough that there was a reason to
release a new version.

I would be very grateful if somebody will test these changes but me and Oleg.
