checkpatch.pl script is throwing errors for the code I have not written.

Dear maintainers of the outreachy team,

I have made a patch for this issue. I am able to create the patch with
`git format-patch`.

However, when I check my patch for errors using the checkpatch.pl
script, it throws errors for the code I have not written. What should
I do?
