could you give a specific example (maybe from the past so that's not
immediately relevant) of a subject
matter where this would have been applicable ?

Also has it been considered to do, say, a 3 month term for this if
these kind of topics are "urgent" (and thus more volatile)
and maybe then have the term expire at the next election
(so something urgent/unexpected happens between election cycles, the
tab can appoint a specialist, but at the next tab election, it gets
turned into business-as-usual)
