yes but these APIs do not return the size written, so callers
do not know how much has been inited.
which is ok in this patchset since callers zero initialize the
structure, but if this is the assumption pls document it.

Why is this a macro not a function? maybe inline if you like.
And maybe  BUILD_BUG_ON to validate it is in range?
