Michael AI identified remaining issues in kas that currently prevent us
from moving forward with rootless in CI - local single builds are fine.
I will move certain patches from next to a wip/rootless branch for now
until we have a new kas release with those issues fixed. Some backward
compatible patches may stay in next, though, still need to check.
