Original intention of autofs was so: stat should not trigger automounts in final component, and everything else - should trigger (by default). See https://elixir.bootlin.com/linux/v6.17-rc2/source/Documentation/filesystems/autofs.rst#L93 . So, yes, theoretically both O_PATH and O_PATH | O_DIRECTORY should follow automounts (and nearly all other syscalls should, too). -- Askar Safin https://types.pl/@safinaskar
