X24 & M2400 screen resolution

Hi

I am looking for a laptop that will be used often with projectors as well
as with regular 19-21" external monitors.

I would like to hear from users of the ASUS M2400 SIS 650 and the IBM X24
laptops how these machines behave with regard to switching screen
resolution and refresh rates while running ie. the good old Ctrl-Alt-+/-
way. There are some comments on the net that the ASUS needs to be 
rebooted in order to switch resolution, which would be a daily 
inconvenience to me if true.

Also it is not exactly clear from the specifications if any of these two
models can actually deliver 1600x1200 85 Hz to the external monitor with
at least 16 bit colors and a good stable signal.
