mixed speed celerons?

I just tried setting up an SMP system using an ABIT BP6 and what I thought were a pair of celeron 500's but turned out to be a 500 and 533. The ABIT board's BIOS only lets me set the CPU speed globally, so I set it to 500/66. Linux (fedora core 1's 2.4.22-1.2197.nptlsmp) boots and sees 2 500mhz CPUs. X has a weird issue with occasionally repeated characters. i.e. ls -l might turn into ls ----llll. Replacing the 500 and 533 with a pair of 400's appears to have made that problem go away. In a search for linux smp and mixed speeds, I found info from Alan Cox in the smp howto saying to boot with "notsc" and it should work. 2.4.22-1.2197.nptlsmp won't accept that option: kernel: notsc: Kernel compiled with CONFIG_X86_TSC, cannot disable TSC. so before I recompile, is that still the case and perhaps the cause of the repeated char problem? Celerons are cheap enough, if the mixed speed thing will cause problems I might as well just pick up a match for one of the 5xx ones. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Jon Lewis | I route Senior Network Engineer | therefore you are Atlantic Net | _________ http://www.lewis.org/~jlewis/pgp for PGP public key_________
