Porting SMP into a custom dual-core MIPS system

Hi all,
Is there any guideline or tutorial for porting SMP kernel into a new
hardware architecture (i.e. proprietary and not based on Intel-MPS 1.4
standard)?
Moreover, could anyone give a hint about what has to be changed in
order to enable such a porting process?
