Hello,

I am seeing a recurring failure with the RTL8852BE while leaving low-power
state. It has occurred (at least) twice with the same signature. The
automatic hardware restart fails, after which wlan0 cannot be brought back
up; rebooting or powering off restores normal operation.

*Hardware:*

Laptop: Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 15ABR8 (82XM)
Mainboard: LNVNB161216
BIOS: KYCN31WW, 2024-03-18

02:00.0 Network controller [0280]:
Realtek RTL8852BE PCIe 802.11ax [10ec]
Subsystem: Lenovo [17aa:4853]
Driver: rtw89_8852be

*Software:*

Distribution: Artix Linux
Kernel: 7.1.4-artix1-1
linux-firmware-realtek: 20260622-1
Firmware file: rtw89/rtw8852b_fw-2.bin
Firmware version: 0.29.29.18

Power-saving options are at their defaults:

rtw89_core.disable_ps_mode=N
rtw89_pci.disable_aspm_l1=N
rtw89_pci.disable_aspm_l1ss=N
rtw89_pci.disable_clkreq=N

The incidents occurred on:

2026-07-30 17:57:30 America/Detroit
2026-07-31 11:29:17 America/Detroit

Both started with:

rtw89_8852be 0000:02:00.0: failed to pre-release fwcmd
rtw89_8852be 0000:02:00.0: firmware failed to ack for leaving ps mode
rtw89_8852be 0000:02:00.0: SER catches error: 0x4000
rtw89_8852be 0000:02:00.0: rtw89: failed to leave lps state
rtw89_8852be 0000:02:00.0: FW backtrace invalid key: 0xffffffff
rtw89_8852be 0000:02:00.0: xtal si not ready(W): offset=90 val=10 mask=10
ieee80211 phy0: Hardware restart was requested
rtw89_8852be 0000:02:00.0: mac preinit fail, ret: -110
mac80211: Hardware became unavailable during restart.
rtw89_8852be 0000:02:00.0: Err: ser L2 re-config timeout

The failed restart also triggers several mac80211 warnings during interface
teardown. Subsequent attempts to initialize wlan0 fail with connection
timeouts and repeated “mac preinit fail, ret: -110” messages.
NetworkManager eventually stops trying to acquire the supplicant interface.

*Possible regression:*

On 2026-07-26, I upgraded:

linux: 7.0.3.artix1-2 -> 7.1.4.artix1-1
linux-firmware-realtek: 20260410-1 -> 20260622-1

The rtw8852b_fw-2.bin file changed in that firmware update, and both
failures occurred afterward. I have not yet tested the previous
kernel/firmware combination or a vanilla upstream kernel, so I cannot
determine whether the regression is in the kernel or firmware.

Please let me know if any additional debugging information or testing would
be useful.

Sincerely,
Rohit Mahesh
