Yeah, I wasn't familiar with KVM beyond knowing it was a virtualization mechanism.  E.G. I did't realize it was actually just part of the kernel and everything needed for it is already part of yocto.  So, I've decided to go that route.  At this point I have core-image-weston built with KVM enabled.  Hopefully that will suffice for what I need to get done.
