Automatic date update

Hi
 
I want a perl script to automatically update the date on our home page
everytime an update is done on our site. By the way, we run a build script
everytime we upload new stuffs into our site or do a re-upload.
 
I still don't know where to start. However, i believe someone have done this
before and can assist me with this.
