 In that case, makes much more sense to add the footnote and live with that. Changing $^O would be wrong as it is dependent on the value of something defined by the OS maintainer.
At least for now it is clear that I need to maintain "darwin" as a OS that supports Archive-Tar-Wrapper. But others can go into the wrong assumption in the future.

No, that's the value that's in use today in `uname -s` on OSX, as I
showed in my earlier reply.
