Actually, (and it seriously pains me to defend SGI), they didn't do anything
wrong.

Tridge didn't release rsync until June 1996.  It didn't get widely
used for at least a year or so.

IRIX 6.2 was released in March 1996. It has the 'rsync' RCS related
command.  It actually looks like a very smart and useful command.
It's essentially a 'cvs update' for RCS trees.  I don't have proof,
but I think IRIX 5.3, from early 1995 had it too.

Thus, SGI was there first.  :)
