This is the result of a very quick smoke (debug builds only) on my SuSE box 
(sorry, no Unicode locale yet) to check if this is what is wanted.
The source-tree was rsynced (ftp.linux.activestate.com::perl-5.8.x) as I do 
not support http for automatic snapshot fetching at the moment.
