Dunno, is there no clue in either F<< <builddir>/mktest.out >> or the 
F<smoke58x.log> logfile?

Could you try Test::Smoke-1.18, I have changed some of the .out-parsing (and 
logging)

[if you have "make install"ed Test::Smoke, the upgrade should be as easy as 
doing that again]

On Windows, I guess we just seed using the user's
credit card number as extracted from the registry. Product activation
collects that, doesn't it?
