Small thing in advance

Though this is acceptable in a hint file, where you *know* that the system
does the commands you use, you cannot do this in general, since this is not
backward (enough) compatible.

I don't know in what version Irix introduced the support of ${...-...}, but I
have worked on systems that did not know this notation
