Just wanted to thanks Stephen for submitting this patch.

I recently ran into lots of trouble pushing some multi-megabyte bytea
fields back and forth, and the application was eating memory like crazy.
With the patch memory usage (and growth) has gone down significantly.

I suggest this patch gets included in the next release of DBD-Pg
whenever that may be.
