a couple of questions

This sounds like a fantastic change.  There's just no way that the general 
DBI interface can handle everything that oci supports.

I just have a couple of question.  First is whether you plan to support 
oci7, or only oci8.  I don't know how much work will go into this new 
module, but hopefully if it's mainly a wrapper around the OCI functions, 
both can be supported.

Second, if I understand your message correctly, we'll be able to mix the two 
api's.  So we can do a:

$dbh = DBI->connect("dbi:Oracle:", "scott", "tiger");
$sth = $dbh->prepare("select long_text from mytable");

and then bind and fetch using the OCI calls?

Anyway, it looks like an excellent improvement.  Looking forward to checking 
it out.
