Late response, but I use it heavily for things like string processing, 
system calls, handy modules (e.g. Email::Valid), and just for times 
where dealing with the limitations of plpgsql becomes too painful.
Bucardo uses pl/perlu heavily, mostly to connect from one 
database to another within a function.

Hard to say. Bucardo has about 9 functions taking up 
roughly 1500 lines. I probably have about 1000 lines 
spread among other projects.
