I think the economy is starting to turn around.  I wrote about it in my 
journal (http://use.perl.org/~ziggy/journal/18034), and a few people
chimed in that things feel like they're heating up again elsewhere.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that the economy is "rosy".  
Just "much less bleak".  ;-)  I'm still seeing oodles of Perl jobs where
Perl coding is an important ancilliary skill, but just one of many
part-time skills that employers are looking for.  This is quite unlike
the jobs for hardcore Perl programmers we saw a few years ago, but even
those jobs seem to be coming back ever so slowly.
