question to recruiters - how successful are contacts made from old resumes?

I've been getting lots of emails from recruiters who have my resume in
their company database.

If i were a recruiter, my primary source of candidates would be a job
service like Dice or Monster.

I cant imagine the hit ratio being very high for old resumes, but then
again, candidate placement is not my job.
