Job Summary

We seek an experienced Senior DBA / Programmer with the
skills, energy and business acumen to excel in the design, development and
execution of ETL code and database schemas which power our data-driven
internet applications for the commercial aviation industry.  You are a
highly accountable self-starter, able to learn quickly, work with limited
direction, and communicate effectively.  You will be working in a
remote-teaming environment as a member of the Diio Database Administration
team, and directly with internal developers.  You will use your proficiency
in all aspects of database administration and design for writing clean,
well-documented code which automates the loading and management of our
mission critical databases.  Your contribution will be considered a success
not only if your code performs according to spec, but also if the code is
efficient and easy to extend and maintain. Diio's DBA programmers play an
active role in projects from inception to delivery and are responsible for
maintaining the over 30TB of raw data in over 1,000 tables within our
databases.

Experience and Education
•5-7 years of DBA experience
•5+ years
programming experience
•BS Engineering/Computer Science or equivalent
experience required
•Unix (Linux)

Desired skills:
Key Responsibilities

•Develop and support software to facilitate database
administration
•Write and maintain ETL software to perform automated
routine and ad-hoc loading of data into the database
•Resolve database
performance issues through root cause investigation and analysis
•Collaborate with other database administrator programmers to ensure
solutions chosen can be used across product squads, with system design that
is flexible enough for multiple squad’s needs
•Engage with Technical
Architects and Product Engineers, providing guidance and specifications for
new schema and query design. Take responsibility for the implementation and
impact of design decisions
•Research new technologies and make
recommendations for upgrades or changes to back-office infrastructure
•Maintain stability and uptime for existing database infrastructure by
monitoring database operations and performing periodic maintenance
activities efficiently
•Support installation of new database infrastructure
and equipment. Take ownership for monitoring its stability
Technical Skills
•Experience with object-oriented programming and writing production-quality
code (Perl 5 experience preferred)
•Advanced knowledge of relational
databases (design, infrastructure, maintenance, administration)
•Advanced
SQL programming skills, preferably including server and query
performance/tuning experience
•Strong problem-solving skills; able to
perform root cause and impact analyses on database-related issues
•Familiarity with software change management tools (Git a plus) and process
automation
•Comfortable working from the Unix command line
•Familiarity
with Perl, Python, Percona/MySQL, PostgreSQL, Vertica a plus
•Familiarity
with Business Intelligence tools and OLAP architectures a plus
•English
fluency (spoken and written); able to discuss complex technical subjects
with clarity and precision
