Posted: March 27, 2020 Job title: Perl Developer / Sustainer Company name: Masters Traditional Games Location: St. Albans, UK Pay rate: £35K Terms of employment: Salaried employee Hours: Flexible Onsite: some Description: For the last 20 years, I have created in Perl a website shop, product and inventory management system, order processing and stock ordering system plus. But I am not a developer - I am the owner of a company that now has 4 employees and turns over £1.5million pa. I need someone to start as a Perl sidekick who will grow to take over much of the Perl work that I do. Initial Project – Set up a Straightforward Perl Development Environment Thereafter - sustain and fix bugs, some urgent, in the existing system. Gradually migrate the existing system to better ways of doing things. And write some new features as they become required. Some sysadmin work may also need doing. You will need to live with some pretty peculiar coding that I've left behind me over the years. It's vital that you are able to understand other people's code and are able to make fixes without complete rewrites (most of the time). All manner of stuff comes up - you may need to be involved with product feeds into Amazon, fixing email relays identifying a memory leak or lifting a skittles table into position at any point! I am willing to be flexible to get the right person. Part-time, flexible hours, remote working, contract or permanent as desired. But visits to the office will be necessary - probably every day to begin with and then we'll have to see what works. Desired skills: * Perl or maybe not if you are already a coder and have a willingness to learn Perl. * MySQL or an understanding of relational databases. * Caution * We are a Windows shop with hints of Linux. Also useful: Apache HTML, CSS Windows and/or Linux admin Sysadmin skills - e.g. LAN/WANs, VMs, DNS, Samba, A liking for traditional games - board games or physical games Website for more information: https://www.mastersofgames.com Contact information at: http://jobs.perl.org/job/21706#contact
