Job title:
Software Engineer with Online Fraud Detection Experience - telecommute
opportunity

Company name: MaxMind, Inc.

Terms of employment: Salaried employee

Hours: Full time

Onsite: no

Description:
MaxMind (www.maxmind.com) is looking for a talented and highly motivated
person to help us improve our minFraud risk score. minFraud is used to
screen over 2 billion online transactions a year, the majority of those
being e-commerce.

We are hiring anywhere in Canada and in the following US
states: AK, CA, CO, FL, IN, LA, MA, MI, MN, MT, NY (excluding New York City
and Yonkers), NC, NH, NV, OR, PA, SD, TX, VA, UT, WA, WV, WY.

The Position
Overview

Our risk scoring is based on heuristics and machine learning.
Your role would be to improve the heuristics as well as feature engineering
for machine learning.

Potential improvements are back-tested against fraud
and not-fraud reports from customers. Our fraud analyst team helps analyze
the results and suggests improvements. This work is meaningful since even a
small improvement can help customers reduce fraud significantly given our
scale.

Our Development Practices

Currently most of our risk score code
is written in Perl and runs on Linux. We plan to move this code to Go over
the next few years. We maintain fast development cycles and identify small,
incremental improvements that add up over time. All work goes through
internal code review on GitHub Enterprise.

We use open source software as
much as possible, and we release code back to the community when we can do
so.

Why work at MaxMind?
In a recent survey, employees listed feeling
respected, trusted, and valued and having autonomy as things they most
liked. They also liked having good colleagues.

MaxMind has a social
mission. We are passionate about helping our customers avoid fraud, and 70%
of profits after taxes are donated to charity.

MaxMind’s compensation
strives to reward getting stuff done, quality of work, and working well
with others.

More about working at MaxMind
MaxMind is a casual, friendly,
results-focused company of about 40 employees, about half of whom are in
technical positions. We maintain a set of core, overlapping hours, but
we’re flexible with specific start and end times and are understanding
about appointments and life events.

Compensation includes a competitive
salary and participation in a company performance-based bonus plan. All
employees get a $2k professional development budget and five days for
professional development annually.

In addition to medical, dental, and
vision coverage, we offer several other benefits in the US, including a
401k with employer contribution and FSA. Please inquire about benefits in
Canada.

Our development team is largely comprised of telecommuters, so
communication centers around group chat, agile planning tools, and Google
Meet. Full-time telecommuting is permitted.

Diversity and Inclusion
We're
committed to diversity and inclusion and are mindful of incorporating them
into all aspects of our company. New ideas and perspectives come from
diverse ways of seeing and thinking. MaxMind is sensitive to all
individuals and viewpoints and believes everyone’s contributions and
opinions are valuable assets to our team. We value bringing individuals and
different perspectives together within and across every department.

We
encourage and sincerely welcome applications from candidates of color,
women, queer candidates, candidates with family caregiving
responsibilities, transgender candidates, and from other communities not
well represented in the tech world.

If you have suggestions on how we may
better promote or express our commitment to diversity and inclusion, we
would love to hear from you. Please send your suggestions to
[email protected].
