Posted: January 20, 2022 Job title: Chief Software Architect Company name: Deriv Services Sdn Bhd Location: Cyberjaya, Malaysia Terms of employment: Salaried employee Hours: Full time Onsite: yes Description: The Role The primary roles of the Chief Software Architect are to provide hands-on architecture leadership, guidance and mentoring to our engineering teams, be a close collaborator and trusted advisor to the CTO, and ensure the delivery of high-quality, robust, and scalable solutions. This person will be a thought-leader, with real-world business common sense, and the ability to collaborate across functions. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of the full stack of software development and cloud technologies, exceptional communication and negotiation skills, and experience guiding software and quality engineers in the implementation of production solutions. In addition, the Chief Software Architect is tasked with working with the engineering teams in solving technical issues on performance, scalability, and enterprise systems including technical leadership for the full front-end and back-end product life cycle i.e., requirements gathering, design, development, testing and deployment. The Challenge Deriv has grown substantially over recent years. The staff count has grown from 120 in 2018 to 720 today, and business volume has grown by an even larger factor. Deriv=E2=80=99s IT teams manage hundreds of cloud se= rvers, databases with terabytes of data, high-frequency data systems and databases that require high availability, and integrations to dozens of key third-party systems. These systems and servers are also subject to demanding security and disaster recovery requirements. On the front-end and mobile applications development side, the challenges include offering low-latency user interfaces to hundreds of thousands of active users in over a hundred countries worldwide, with excellent usability and detailed metrics-tracking for the marketing and business development teams. With a long backlog of new projects and initiatives to execute and a continually growing staff count, Deriv=E2=80=99s challenge is to reduce dependencies be= tween systems, processes, and teams, so that development and releases for various products can occur asynchronously. The Chief Software Architect will be integral to this effort, proposing system architecture plans that reduce dependencies and accelerate deployment. Responsibilities and Objectives -Drive project/program execution. -Provide architectural and technical guidance to the Back-end, -Front-end, and DevOps engineering teams. -Deliver quality software products on schedule and within budget. -Be responsible for full life cycle systems/applications development. -Lead the design, development, integration, and debugging of systems and applications. -Do requirements analysis, system/software design and analysis, development/software metric creation and analysis, system risk analysis, integration, and test metrics. -Develop and maintain detailed program schedules and software development plans. -Translate product requirements into engineering specifications. -Manage and oversee software development tasks and overall engineering schedule. -Provide leadership to the software engineering teams and enforce standard company policies and procedures that adhere to software development standards. -Work closely with the CTO to define product direction and design. -Anticipate future system needs and be proactive in identifying solutions. -Be responsible for project planning and management. -Be actively involved in the recruitment effort, to build high-performance engineering teams. -Evaluate and identify new technologies for implementation. -Support, maintain, and document software functionality.
