Description:
The Production Engineering (PE) department is the central resource for
development and maintenance of the studio pipeline. The pipeline consists
of a wide variety of scripts, tools, and “glue code” that enables artists
to more effectively use the studio’s proprietary software packages but also
to integrate into the infrastructure that has been set up to optimally make
animated feature films.

The PE department manager is the leader of these efforts. Through their own
leadership and the leadership of their leads and supervisors, the manager’s
role is to support the studio’s long-term goals while also servicing
immediate production support and development needs.

Tasks and Responsibilities:
· Maintains a yearly operational budget for the department.
· Maintains primary responsibility for the operation of the department.
This includes but is not
limited to:
o Facilitating effective communication within the department through
meetings or other
means. The goal of this communication is not only to ensure clarity of
purpose and
direction of assigned tasks but also to encourage growth and mentorship
within the team.
o Facilitating effective communication with other departments, including
production. This
communication should include not only an outward flow of information
regarding
internal priorities but also serve as an opportunity to gain information
important to the
department as a whole. In this role, the PE manager should serve as the
face of the PE
department to the facility from both a technical and production point of
view.
o Leading or participating in decisions regarding short and long term goals
for the PE
department.
o Creating a fostering environment for the department members. This
includes but is not
limited to managing change, identifying and harboring ideas for
departmental growth and
direction, team building, conflict resolution, and mentorship.
· Maintains primary responsibility for the administration of the
department. This includes but is not
limited to:
o All matters of a financial nature for the department including hiring,
salaries, and
bonuses.
o All matters regarding career development including reviews, company goal
setting, and
personal goal consultation.
· Ability to travel frequently between Glendale and Redwood City. As this
department is cross-site,
regular travel is necessary to maintain relationships across the team.

Required skills:
· 5+ years of management and/or leadership experience within technical
divisions of a company.
· Professional technical project management experience
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Experience working in a high pressure production environment
· Solid knowledge of a variety of programming and scripting languages such
as C, C++, Perl, Python, and c-shell
· Solid knowledge of a Linux desktop environment
· Solid interpersonal skills
