Description:
This Perl developer will be working on our client's Achievement Management
System, an educational tool that provides grade level benchmark testing in
specific subject areas to over 450 schools throughout the US and the UK.

This person will be develop and support in-house applications that are 100%
mod_perl (using a combination of mason and Template::Toolkit) sitting on
top of Linux servers with a PostgreSQL database back-end.

RESPONSIBLITIES:

    * Ability to determine unique and creative solutions to problems within
a rapid development environment
    * Develop and maintain software and packages to support applications.
    * Analyze and fix data irregularities and write code when necessary to
fix problems.
    * Optimize queries, indexes, stored procedures and other to increase
throughput, availability, scalability, redundancy, superior performance and
quick recoverability. Develop reports and custom queries for internal and
external users.
    * Participate in the design of new applications.
    * Develop web applications using Perl and Template Toolkit.
    * Develop Perl modules to support internal processes and applications.
    * Maintain code of existing applications.
    * Recommend strategies to take advantage of database
    * capabilities for new and existing projects. Constructively challenge
and improve existing department-wide processes.
    * Writes internal documentation describing software developed.

Required skills:
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

5+ years solid development experience with object-oriented Perl, mod_perl,
XML and HTML in a dynamic, fast-paced application development environment

5+ years of SQL experience (Oracle or PostgreSQL environment is ideal)

5+ years with Operations Support Software

Database development and design experience with SQL and Oracle

Understanding of various software development lifecycle methodologies,
configuration management (CVS) and object-oriented software development
methodologies

Detailed knowledge of web application architecture and infrastructure

Experience with Linux (primarily Red Hat)

Ability to work well independently and within a team, especially
cross-functional teams

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

TECHNICAL SKILLS:

Mason (v1.0.6)

Template::Toolkit

ETL experience

Some secondary language (C/C++, Java, Python, Ruby, etc.)

Some experience with school operations, especially in the areas of
enrollment, scheduling and attendance.

EDUCATION:

Bachelors degree in Computer Science or other related field
