Posted: August 22, 2006 Job title: System developer at progressive non-profit Company name: Media Matters Location: United States, DC, Washington Pay rate: based on experience Travel: 0% Terms of employment: Salaried employee Hours: Full time Onsite: yes Description: Media Matters for America is a progressive, nonprofit research and information center in Washington, D.C., dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media. We seek a systems developer to support the evolution of our website, mediamatters.org, and other initiatives. This is a dynamic position well-suited to an innovative individual interested in working on progressive issues in an open-source software environment. In addition to website development, the position also involves working with our in-house video monitoring system and other projects. Responsibilities: * Help extend our website with new features and enhance its performance. * Help enhance our systems for media recording, archiving, and retrieval. * Conduct systems-administration work on our Unix Web, mail, and database servers. * Create Web applications to aid internal processes such as editorial workflow and Web publishing. * Other projects that fight the spread of conservative misinformation. Required skills: * Commitment to the organization's mission and values. * Experience programming in a Perl environment. * Minimum of two years of experience with LAMP-style Web development. * Minimum of two years working on Unix systems administration (apache, mysql, postfix, courier) and network architecture design. * Experience with XML and XHTML, familiarity with CSS and HTML 4.0. * Flexibility with schedule and a willingness to be on call when needed. Desired skills: * AJAX. * mod_perl, mod_rewrite, and mod_proxy. * Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
