Description:
BBC World Service New Media is responsible for designing, building and
maintaining one of the world's most unique websites, providing an online
news service in 33 languages. The site constantly evolves to remain at the
forefront of the medium, while fulfilling its aim to be the world's
reference point for authoritative and impartial news and information.

Join the team engineering a wide range of interactive websites using
increasingly automated, technical solutions. Working to agreed
specifications, you’ll help define editorial direction, design, technical
standards and timescales.


Required skills:
A demonstrable knowledge of Perl, mod_perl, Apache, Unix and Relational
databases is required, along with an awareness of structured programming
methodologies (OO, modular) and coding standards. Additional desirable
technical skills would be XML technologies, HTML and CSS, SQL, JavaScript.
Knowledge of large-scale websites, language encoding, audio, W3C standards,
cross-browser/platform compatibility and accessibility issues is a distinct
advantage.
