Posted: September 5, 2006 Job title: Web Developer Company name: Social Science Research Council Location: United States, NY, New York Pay rate: TBD Travel: 0% Terms of employment: Independent contractor (project-based) Onsite: some Description: The SSRC is seeking a New York based web developer The SSRC is looking to establish an ongoing relationship with a freelance web developer with solid Perl skills to help support and enhance its website and related web-based projects on a basis. This individual will also aid in training the 20+ staff responsible for posting content to the website, using Bricolage. This developer will work on a per-project basis. The web developer will work with the SSRCs Special Projects Manager. Responsibilities will include: * Training staff on basic use of Bricolage. * Development of new website features and functionality * Integration between the SSRCs perl-based content management systems (Bricolage), and Plone. * Template authoring for the SSRCs websites. * Ensuring cross-browser compatibility and standards compliance * Keeping the SSRC informed about best practices and latest developments Required skills: Candidates should have two to four years of experience with: * Web Development * MySQL and PostgreSQL * XHTML/HTML and CSS * UNIX * JavaScript * PHP * XML The successful candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills; be proactive in offering advice; and have an affinity for open source software.
