WestEd, a nonprofit research, development, and service agency, works with
education and other communities to promote excellence, achieve equity, and
improve learning for children, youth, and adults. While WestEd serves the
states of Arizona, California, Nevada, and Utah as one of the nation's
Regional Educational Laboratories, our agency's work extends throughout the
United States and abroad. WestEd has 14 offices nationwide, from Washington
and Boston to Arizona, Southern California, and its headquarters in San
Francisco.

The Application Development Group (ADG) manages the selection, acquisition,
and development of software and other digital media for staff and clients.
We offer referral, consultation, research, and development services to
WestEd programs and projects as well as to external clients. Our areas of
work include Web-based applications, database development and maintenance;
and other digital media, e.g., document development, content management,
CD-ROM and video.

Position Description

The Interactive Application Developer will develop interactive web
applications using open source software and working in a team environment
with other developers. Responsibilities include the development of
interactive applications, as well as be involved with advanced aspects of
database-driven Web development and other programming.



Responsibilities

The major responsibilities for the position of Interactive Application
Developer include the following:

· Develop and maintain complex interactive applications.

· Work closely with team members to ensure overall quality and integrity of
web-based interactive applications.

· Help build a learning environment that promotes the sharing of knowledge
and skills between team members, consultants, and other WestEd staff
through instructional workshops and study groups.


Required skills:
· Database-driven Web site application development using technologies such
as SQL, InterDev, PHP, and/or Active Server Pages.
· Two or more years of PERL CGI programming.
· Experience coordinating the development and production of interactive web
sites.
· General knowledge of the Unix operating system and its navigational
elements.
· Two or more years of systems design experience. Previous development
experience in object-oriented environment a plus.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Expertise writing SQL queries.
· Excellent organizational skills.
· Ability to handle changing priorities and multiple tasks simultaneously.
· Ability to develop a clear understanding of client needs.
· Reliability, a professional attitude, and a willingness to do what is
required in a cooperative work setting.
