Kelly Scientific Resources is currently seeking a Bioinformatics Specialist
to work on-site at the National Institutes of Health in Rockville, MD.


The Bioinformatics Specialist will:

- Participate with other members of the Bioinformatics team in the support
of a modern, high-throughput genomic DNA sequencing facility

- Maintain existing software packages that track and process raw sequence
data

- Provide analytical tools for DNA finishing

- Generate quality and progress reports, as well as package and track
submission of data to public repositories 

- Extend existing Perl programs, web-based interactive tools and Oracle
database queries as sequence management and analysis needs evolve

Required skills:
The Bioinformatics Specialist must have:

- At least 3 years of programming experience, including:
- At least 2 years professional experience programming in object-oriented
Perl & CGI
- At least 2 years professional experience with relational database
development
- Solid knowledge of AWL, HTML, and UNIX shell scripting
- Experience developing and deploying applications on a UNIX platform
- Familiarity with Oracle DB querying using DBI and SQL Plus
- Programming support on bioinformatics projects
- Familiarity with public bioinformatics databases and tools (e.g. Entrez,
BLAST, etc.)
- Prior use of Versioning Control Software (VCS)
- Some experience with object-oriented programming in Java, C, or C++

- B.S. in Computer Science or related field (background in bioinformatics
or biological sciences strongly preferred)

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills

- Proven critical thinking skills and a demonstrated ability to develop
unique solutions to programming problems
