The Knowledge Management organization (KM) is responsible for providing the
data and information that fuels BGI’s innovation and performance. The key
clients of this group span the entire investment process, beginning with
research, to portfolio management and operations. The role of the Knowledge
Management IT group is to provide the underlying technology solutions that
are reliable, adaptable, integrated, scalable and maintainable. 

The Systems Developer in the (KM) Data Management Services team is
responsible for providing IT development for production-quality data
acquisition, cleansing and distribution with technologies such as Sybase
ASE, Perl, Sybase IQ, SQL and XML. 


Primary Responsibilities 


The candidate will be responsible for the full software development
lifecycle, involving the day to day interface with a global support team,
spanning three offices. Responsibilities will include: 

•Partnering with Knowledge Management Business Analysts and Clients to
define business requirements and test plans. 
•Implementing high quality well tested technology solutions to business
problems using one of BGI’s agreed SDLCs. 
•Collaborating with KM Architecture group on design of new applications and
components. 
•Building strong relationships with the business through delivery,
communication and domain knowledge. 
•Working closely with the Production Services team to ensure the code is
fit for a production environment. 
•Providing 2nd Level support for existing production code. 


Required skills:
•Min, BS degree in Computer science or equiv. 
•Min. 5+ years of related experience 
•Strong OO Designs skill – knowledge of OO design methodology, terminology
and principles. 
•OO Perl and/or Java, J2EE experience. 
•Strong Database development skills – Sybase ASE preferable 
•Strong Database design skills - (indexes, normalization, stored
procedures, views, entity-relationships, etc…) 
•Strong Unix skills - at least 4 years day-to-day experience of UNIX
(Solaris, Linux, BSD, etc…) 


Desired skills:
•Experience with an ETL tool, preferably Informatica. 
•Good XML skills 
•Sybase IQ 
•PowerBuilder 
•MQ Series 
•Autosys 
•Asset Control
