Location: United States, CA, San Mateo Travel: 0-25% Terms of employment: Salaried employee Hours: Full time Onsite: yes Description: We are looking for talented, creative, clever, enthusiastic, and intelligent engineers to join our team as a senior software engineer. Since we are a small company, applicants with a broad range of experience are valued. We are looking to fill a full-time on-site Senior Perl Engineer position at our San Mateo office. This role is as diverse as you are, but your primary responsibility would be developing and maintaining our embedded applications. You would be writing these applications with perl in an event-based server. You would be working very closely with other engineers in a close-knit 3 to 4 person engineering team. Responsibilities: * Development of Fabrik appliance code in OO Perl * Development and refinement of system build scripts * Tuning existing applications for memory usage and performance * Help develop new products (defining requirements, prototyping, testing, high-level support) Required skills: * Extensive perl knowledge * Object-oriented experience * Personal interest in perl and/or *nix (BSD/Linux/etc) * Desire to learn and improve your skills * Common sense Desired skills: Preferred Technical Skills (Should have some of these): * Event-based programming (Danga::Socket, POE) * C/C++ * Personal contributions to open source projectss * Linux Guru * Cross-platform development (busybox, buildroot) * Experience with minimal filesystems and embedded linux (busybox, openwrt, uclibc, dietlibc, etc.) * Networking (ethernet, TCP/IP, NAT, routing, Multicast) * Contribution to open-source projects * Familiarity with networking ( TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, ethernet, routing, firewalls ) * Linux platform expertise ( iptables, iproute, init/rc scripts ) * Perl web development (CGI, Template Toolkit, Mason, FastCGI) Optional Technical Skills (Not required, but nice): * "AJAX" ( DHTML, javascript, dojo, prototype, script.aculo.us, etc.) * P2P technologies ( Bittorrent, gnutella, zeroconf, UPNP ) * Advanced networking ( LVS, load balancing, multicast, IDS, traffic shaping, NAT traversal ) * Clustering experience ( spread toolkit, whackamole, heartbeat, ultramonkey ) * Knowledge of Network File Systems ( Samba, NFS, Coda, AFS, WebDAV ) * Knowledge of Identity storage ( LDAP, NIS, CalDAV, GroupDAV ) * Knowledge of VOIP Telephony ( SIP, H.323, IAX, Asterisk ) Contact information at: http://jobs.perl.org/job/4816#contact
