Description:
Six Apart, the weblogging software and services company behind LiveJournal,
Movable Type and TypePad, is looking Senior Unix Systems Administrators to
help us ensure the health, uptime and performance of our hosted services,
which rely on an infrastructure of 250+ Unix (primarily RedHat Linux,
Debian, and CentOS) hosts requiring 24x7 uptime. 

###Responsibilities### 

* Define system, quality and analysis on systems, networks, and
applications, translating requirements into functional specifications and
effective processes. 
* Provide second-tier oncall support for production services. 
* Improve the build and release management for all online services. 
* Ensure reliable code pushes and work with Development and QA on
validation of new versions. 
* Adhere to changelog process for all production hardware and software
changes. 
* Work with the Site Operations Manager in the data center and provide
consultation and strategic direction in systems and hosting technology. 
* Define and deliver optimal system architecture projects within
agreed-upon timeframe. 
* Assist in the development and maintenance of security best practices. 
* Own projects for product changes and improvements. 
* Develop tools and scripts to assist with routine maintenance tasks. 
* Mentor the Site Operations team in the usage of tools and scripts and
work with them to develop and deliver optimal solutions for service
recovery and business resumption. 
* Provide recommendations for scalability and performance improvement in
selected areas of discipline. 


Required skills:
* 5+ years of systems administration experience in a large scale production
Linux environment 
* 3-5 years scripting with shell, perl, or other languages 
* Ability to architect high-availability systems and services in a hosting
environment 
* Experience with NetApp, EMC, SANs, or other high-performance storage
systems 
* Experience with large scale DNS and Mail systems 
* Experience in the development and rollout of operations processes 
* Previous experience in an online business is essential. 
* Experience in designing and implementing solutions for a large installed
base of servers 
* BSCS or equivalent experience
