Description:
Duties and Responsibilities 
  

Under general supervision: Designs, analyzes, evaluates, codes, tests,
debugs, and implements moderately complex software applications in support
of various functional areas. 
Formulates and defines system scope and objectives through research and
fact-finding to develop or modify moderately complex information systems. 
Prepares detailed specifications from which programs will be written. 
Works on moderately complex to complex problems where analysis of the
situation or data requires a review of identifiable factors. 
Works independently on most phases of applications systems analysis and
programming activities. 
Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine
appropriate action. 
Working with internal customers, develops a basic understanding of the
business application for which the application is being designed. 
May assist internal customers with questions regarding the functionality of
applications. 
May assist with implementation and/or integration of packaged software
systems. 
May assist with analysis of functionality of packaged software being
evaluated for use. 
May work off-hours and weekends occasionally, as required by project work
and systems maintenance. 


Required skills:
Experience 

4-7 years of experience designing and developing object-oriented Perl
applications required. 
2 or more years of experience designing and developing Ruby/Rails
applications highly desirable. 
4-7 years of software development experience that involved writing software
requirements, design specifications, coding in structured programming
languages (C/C++, Java, Perl, etc), and design and documentation of system
test plans.  
4-7 years experience with the UNIX operating system, preferably on Linux
platforms, using Korn Shell, AWK, SED, and common system functions. 
4-7 years of experience with object-oriented analysis, design, and
programming required. 
At least 4 years of experience with Oracle 8 or greater with knowledge of
SQL Plus usage required. 
At least 3 years experience in the use of a software configuration
management system, such as CVS, required. 
Experience designing and developing web-based applications, utilizing
Perl-CGI, ASP.NET C#, ASP VBScript, ASP JavaScript, PHP or other
technologies highly desirable.

Skills 

Proficiency in office computer applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and
Access. 
Must have strong verbal, written, communication and negotiation skills. 
Must have strong problem solving, organizational, and troubleshooting
skills. 
Knowledge and appreciation of concepts used in a
total-quality-management-driven organization.
