Posted: December 12, 2006 Job title: Perl Developer Wanted for Hot New Startup Company name: BookRenter.com Location: United States, CA, Sunnyvale Pay rate: Equity Travel: 0% Terms of employment: Independent contractor (project-based) Length of employment: As Needed Hours: Flexible Onsite: some Description: Under the direction of senior engineering staff and the CTO, the successful candidate will design, code, document and test highly scalable Perl scripts that interact with the msSQL database. Of particular importance, the candidate will create interfaces for new strategic partners involved in fulfillment and logistics. The candidate will primarily be responsible for writing scripts that automate processing to and from our database to a delimited flat file. The successful candidate will also be involved and learn about other areas of the company, including Sales, Marketing, Finance, and Technology. Weekly face time with key executives (CEO, CFO, CTO) will ensure a high level of visibility for developer and the deliverables. This is a great opportunity to get in early and help us grow one of today's hottest college focused startups and help us grow our business even faster! Required skills: Must be proficient with mySQL and Perl. Must have right to work in the U.S. Previous experience with e-businesses, relational databases, shell scripting and EDI are a plus. Experience using Perl to automate large-scale file processing is also a plus. Desired skills: The applicant must have or must be working towards a degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science. The applicant must be hard working, self-motivated, creative, and have excellent communication skills. The abilities to solve problems and multitask are a necessity.
