Description:
MEN Media is part of the Guardian Media Group. In Greater Manchester the
portfolio includes twenty newspaper titles including the Manchester Evening
news, the TV station, Channel M and a strong on-line portfolio of websites.


The digital division of MEN Media  provides the link to the Greater
Manchester community through a range of delivery channels, which include
our websites www.manchesteronline.co.uk and
www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk.

Joining our Digital Development Team the successful candidate will
participate in the further development/implementation of current and new
systems. The Web Developer will help us to assemble the range of interfaces
with which we will interact with our customers.

You will take responsibility for creating backend systems and interactive
elements for our expanding portfolio of digital products. Strong coding
skills, particularly in PERL and XML/XSLT are a pre-requisite together with
knowledge of HTML/DHTML. Knowledge of any or some of the following will be
an advantage: Video Streaming technology, Solaris, Linux, SQL and Oracle.  


The ideal candidate will have strong communication and organisational
skills plus an in-depth understanding of site architecture. He/she must be
able to take a take a project on from an initial concept through to a
working user interface, in the agreed timescales, applying knowledge in
intuitive navigation and new technologies.
