Description:
To develop, monitor, and maintain the systems that produce all new media
output for my client under tight deadlines.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

1.  Write and test software to the technical specification provided,
developing in Perl for a UNIX platform that interfaces with a relational
database and is accessed through an Apache web server.

2.  To develop and maintain key databases (principally built in MySQL).

3. To contribute to the technical planning of software projects within a
team and help estimate the timescales and resources required to
successfully deliver a final product.  

4. To re-engineer & refactor existing software products as well as to build
new backend production systems and web applications.

5. To identify, explain and troubleshoot any code defects and system issues
as well as to offer alternative solutions as required.

6. To be responsible for the quality of your own development work and the
systems being developed.

7. To abide by the client's standards and guidelines and contribute to the
maintenance and update.  

8. Ensure that all work carried out is well documented and that
documentation is accessible to all parties.

9. To keep abreast of software engineering developments and new technology
and share information, ideas and best practice with software engineering
and other technical teams.  Build or recommend tools to simplify the
software engineering process and reduce the development cycle.

10. To work to the client's policy on Health and Safety.


Required skills:
Essential

·	Knowledge and experience of the software development lifecycle and
processes  
·	An active interest in current internet technologies and development
trends
·	Development of large scale internet-based applications and
production systems
·	Experience in fault finding and problem solving difficult data and
server related errors under time pressure
·	Experience of commercial web development using the following:  
Ø	Perl  - mod_perl a preference  
Ø	Apache modules
Ø	XML 
Ø	HTML
Ø	Javascript
Ø	SQL databases 
Ø	Unix tools and utilites (e.g. CVS, make, rsync, samba, cron,
nagios)


Desired skills:
·	Experience with the following technologies would be beneficial: 
XSLT, CSS, web services
·	A wider exposure to software languages such as C++, Java and PHP
where it supports understanding of software engineering practices.
·	Experience of test-driven development practices would be beneficial

·	Experience in multimedia and creative environments
·	Experience in scientific or engineering environments
·	Linux and Solaris administration skills 
·	Experience with Flash, Dreamweaver, Homesite, PhotoShop, Excel and
Real Producer
·	Awareness of cross-platform and browser compatibility issues
