The ideal candidate is a versatile engineering professional with experience developing key portions of a consumer-focused web site. This developer will create and enhance web-based applications for consumers, partners, and employees. We expect candidates to have a thorough understanding of the technologies they have used, and we place a premium on clean, robust designs both in user interfaces and in code that can be deployed to real users on time. Experience scaling a site to millions of users is desirable. Job Requirements: Minimum of BSCS degree or similar. 3 or more years of professional experience developing web-based applications. Strong development skills with Perl, Java, Apache, Linux, and MySQL, or a proven ability to adapt a design to an unfamiliar technology, is critical. Familiarity with other languages and web technologies, such as Java, is a plus. Experience defining, estimating, and tracking the progress of technical tasks for a schedule is very important. Proficiency in writing HTML and CSS by hand with strict adherence to W3C standards is a plus as is experience with JavaScript and Flash. Familiarity with common sysadmin tools (cron, scp, etc.) and CVS or other source code control systems for collaborative development would be very useful. Inability to punch a wooden plank with enough force to snap it in half can be overlooked in an otherwise ideal candidate.
