Problem getting JPL working: undefined symbol: crypt

After some initial re-configuring I got JPL to compile/install as far as
testing the Sample.class program. When it tries to run, however, I get this:
 
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: ...
Sample/libSample.so: .../ppc-linux/CORE/libperl.so: undefined symbol: crypt
    at java.lang.ClassLoader$NativeLibrary.load(Native Method)
    at ...
 
I've tried to find an answer, but without any luck and now I'm stuck!
 
Any ideas would be appreciated :-)
