have you looked at joshua pritikin's NetServer::Portal?  i've
been using josh's code for the last five months and just stumbled
over it this week.  you can add NetServer::Portal to any
Event-based program.  it delivers a top-like display (where
the event generators are the "processes") and another window that
lets you display or update any globally visible state.
truly amazing and very useful for debugging Event-related
code.
