Hmm.  It seems to be working now, but I'm not quite sure what I did.  I
guess the encouragement is sufficient!

But on another note: what exactly does the 'min' parameter for an 'io'
event do?  I've sent 'min' to 20, but I see events occurring more
frequently than that.  What I'd like to do is have the event trigger on
the availability of data at the socket, but not if the last event
happened less than N seconds ago.
